Warm Weather Training

Welcome back to the 35 swimmers, 2 coaches and 4 chaperones who were on an Intensive Swim Camp, in Torremolinos from 7 - 14 April. The daily programme consisted of 2 x 2hr sessions in a  50m outdoor pool, followed by a land training session! With such an intensive programme, the swimmers learnt the value of good nutrition and staying hydrated, especially essential in the 30ºC+ heat ! Yes it was tough, but there was an equal amount of laughs, as swimmers competed outside the pool in teams for points. For many swimmers the souvenir from Torremolinos, as well as much improved swim times, is the interesting tan lines many are modelling !

Championship Success for KRSC swimmer

Congratulations to Jai Patel, who will compete this Sunday in the British Schools Biathlon Championships at the Olympic Park, swimming in the Aquatic Centre. Jai will then also compete at the National Modern Pentathlon Triathlon Championships on 10 May. Good luck Jai from your friends at KRSC !!

KRSC Enthusiasm Award

In the spirit of the Jack Petchey Achievement Award, which is available to swimmers aged 11-25, KRSC have introduced a new Enthusiasm Award to recognise our younger swimmers.  Congratulations to both Ollie Hill and Rachael Harris who were nominated by their coach Sylvie Amson for this award. Swimmers and parents were encouraged to vote online to determine the winner and Ollie Hill triumphed with a narrow majority of only 1 vote.

Surrey County Championships - Relay Results

The relay events held on the final weekend of the Surrey County Championships always provide plenty of excitement.  All our teams swam well with many of our younger swimmers competing for the first time in a major competition.  In total we won 4 silver and 2 bronze medals which is a huge improvement over last year, see table below for our medal winning teams.  With a total of 69 medals this year for the whole competition it has been our best haul since 2008 and really demonstrates the great improvement that has resulted from the restructuring that we implemented in the autumn of 2013. Well done to all those who competed.

Surrey County Championships - 4th Weekend

This weekend saw Kingston Royals swimmers competing at both the Guildford Spectrum and Crystal Palace in the last of the individual events of this year’s Surrey County Championships where a further six gold, eleven silver and seven bronze medals took the total medals won this year to sixty three.  A further 42 finalist places (top eight) were achieved. The number of medals won this year is the best the club has seen since 2008 – and the relays are still to go. This weekend’s races included the last of the 100m and 200m events and then the fast and furious 50m sprints at Crystal Palace on Sunday. It was a particularly good weekend for ten year old Rafe Bletso who picked up two golds, three silvers and one bronze. Meanwhile Yasmine Hamerlaine added a further two gold medals to the two she had won earlier in the championships. Finn Harman and Tegan Lessey were the remaining gold medalists, both getting well deserved first places in the 50m freestyle. Next Saturday (29th March) is the relays and the conclusion of this year’s Surrey Championships.

Parent Helpers Required- The Royals Open Meet 20/21 Sep 2014

You will be aware that the club will host its first Open Meet on the 20th and 21st September at the Xcel Leisure Centre, Walton on Thames.  It will also double up as our Club Championhip Sprint competition.  This is a very exciting step in the evolution of KRSC and for it to be a success we will need the support of parent helpers across the two days.  To assist in the running of the meet, the following roles are identified:

Surrey County Championships - 3rd Weekend

Guildford Spectrum again played host to another weekend of the Surreys where KRSC swimmers competed in the 200m IM, 200m Back, 200m Fly, 100m Back and 100m Fly events. As a club we are now in third place (out of twenty five) according to Meet Mobile having just given up second in the last event of Sunday's races.  Over the two days we won three golds, nine silvers and six bronze medals.  We have now equalled our total medal tally from 2013 and still have three more days to go.  Dylan Conway won gold in the 200m Fly with Thomas Urry picking up gold in the 200m IM and 100m Back events.  Details of all medal winners are below.  Next weekend, 22th/23th March sees us visit both the Guildford Spectrum and Crystal Palace (CP) with the relays being competed at CP on the 29th March.
