Six medals for KRSC at Surreys 50m sprint events

Crystal Palace, Sunday 11th March was the setting for the third week of the Surrey County Age Group Championships where a full day of 50m sprints saw Kingston Royals swimmers add a further six medals (three silver and three bronze) to their previous total of 23.

With almost 700 swimmers present for the freestyle event alone, competition was fierce.   But despite this Kingston Royals swimmers made it into a further 13 finals races on top of the six medal wins.

After the third weekend of racing, Kingston are lying fifth out of twenty four in the team rankings.

Eleven medals for KRSC at second weekend of Surreys

The second weekend of the Surrey County Championships took place on 3rd and 4th March at Guildford Spectrum. After two very long days of 100m and 200m races, Kingston Royals Swimmers came away with one gold, three silver and seven bronze medals taking the overall medal tally for this year's Surreys to twenty three - four gold, five silver and fourteen bronze.

After the second weekend of racing Kingston are lying fourth out of twenty three in the overall team rankings.  Medal winners over the weekend were as follows:

KRSC swimmer, Vanessa Raw, boosts Olympic triathlon hopes

As reported in The Sun, Kingston Royal’s Vanessa Raw had a great result in Peru on Sunday, 26th February where she picked up second place in the ITU Pan American Cup.  She was one of 11 British triathletes competing to gain racing points and a chance for Olympic selection.  Two other Brits, Kerry Lang and Lucy Hall took first and third places respectively.

The 2012 Young Coaches Programme

The ASA is working with the Youth Sport Trust to complete targeted works with clubs to develop up to 200 young inspiring coaches aged 16 – 19 years from across the regions. The young coaches’ programme will support ASA swim21 accredited clubs to support their young people to become better coaches giving them the opportunity to develop confidence and ideas for delivery within the club environment.

Joe Clark - Gold Medal WinnerKate Boden - Gold Medal WinnerThis weekend was the first weekend of the Surrey County Championships and Kingston Royals Swimmers picked up three gold, two silver and seven bronze medals at the long distance events held at Surrey Sports Park in Guildford.  Full details can be found on the Surrey Swimming website.

Saturday, 4th February was the 1500m freestyle event for boys and the 800m freestyle event for girls.  Sunday, 5th February was the 400m freestyle and 400m IM events for both boys and girls.

Advice from Di Hargrave, Head Coach:

"The first weekend are the distance events; if your best event is a distance swim and you are competing on Saturday 4th I would recommend missing Friday night (get an early one as sleep is very important to an athlete) and Saturday morning. The events start around lunchtime on Saturdays. (Check before you leave)
