The 2012 Young Coaches Programme

If you are aged 16-19yrs and interested in learning to coach please read the following:

The ASA is working with the Youth Sport Trust to complete targeted works with clubs to develop up to 200 young inspiring coaches aged 16 – 19 years from across the regions. The young coaches’ programme will support ASA swim21 accredited clubs to support their young people to become better coaches giving them the opportunity to develop confidence and ideas for delivery within the club environment.

The programme is available from 1st February 2012 and coaches will have the opportunity to:
  • Enroll onto a UKCC Level 1 Teaching or Coaching Course from February – August 2012 for just £50.00* (£345 reduction on normal cost)
  • Assigned a mentor
  • 4 e-Learning Stroke CPDs

Applications are now open and the ASA welcomes all eligible young coaches from across the regions to apply and can be submitted electronically to volunteering@swimming.org or via mail to the ASA Volunteer Officer, ASA, Sportpark, Pavilion 3, 3 Oakwood Drive, Loughborough, LE11 3QF. 

Closing date for applications: first come – first Served from 1st February 2012 until 200 places are taken.

Selection Criteria:
  • Aged 16 to 19 years old
  • Member of an ASA Club working towards or accredited with swim21
  • Have good communication and organisation skills
  • Motivated to pass on their knowledge to others
  • Committed to personal development and continued learning
  • Evidence of support from Head Coach and mentoring support from the club
  • *Payment of £50 must be made by the swim21 club
