World Cup Swim for Alex Panayides

Kingston Royals swimmer, Alex Panayides, travelled to Eilat in early April to compete at the 10k Fina Marathon World Cup.  The event attracted a top-class field with competitors from over 30 countries including world champions Thomas Lurz and Ana Marcela Cunha as well as many swimmers due to compete at the 2012 Olympics.  Alex took an impressive two and a half minutes off her PB and finished in 26th place - a great achievement against a largely 'professional' field of athletes.   In fact the course proved too tough for some competitors with four of the female swimmers failing to finish.  We wish Alex all the best for the forthcoming open water season which includes a second 10k swim in Eilat in mid May.
