October Swim Camp

October Swim Camp
Over the October Half Term, 16 swimmers from the club's Senior Performance Squad travelled to the Irish National High Performance Centre, located at the University of Limerick, for a week long performance training camp.

With the use of the centre's Olympic standard 50m pool the swimmers were surrounded by a plethora of Ireland's top swimmers including more than a dozen who had competed last summer at World Champs, World University Games, World & European Junior Champs. Our swimmers trained exceptionally well, becoming more professional in their approach both in and out of the pool.

The end of the training week, which also included a team building session, a training session led by Olympic coach Lars Humer and a motivational talk by world class open water swimmer, Chris Bryan, culminated in our swimmers competing at the Munster Provincial Swimming Championships.

Each member of the team swam amazingly after a long week's training. Nobody shrugged off the quick turn around that saw most race a heat, relay and final in the space of 10 minutes, and each swimmer competing in a minimum of 11 events across two days. The team took a bundle of medals home from the event as well as scores of PBs. A more detailed account of the camp will follow in December's club newsletter along with a piece written by the Senior Performance Squad's very own Katie Orrell. She will give her insight into what she described as "a great week of training and competing that ended up as everyone's favourite camp."
